I believe that I am the living example of the quote "It takes a village to raise a child". My parents worked long hours, and many more times than not, I was frequently babysat by neighbors and my parents' friends. Although I missed my parents when they were gone, I got to listen to the stories from people of all ages and backgrounds, and learn about different cultures. I learned things that my parents did not have the knowledge to teach me. At my college graduation dinner, I was not surprised to see more than just family-- I saw a village: the neighbors and friends of my parents who watched me when I was little, who gave me the valuable experiences that made me to be the woman I am today. I understand the importance of the quality of individuals within a child's life, and as a product of quality Read more babysitting, I have spent over seven years bestowing the gifts that were given to me through babysitting. I have watched children of all different ages, from 2 month old infants to 13 year old teenagers, and I always recognize the importance of keeping children mentally and physically challenged. I believe that I have the awareness to teach children how to fix and learn from their mistakes in a way that they will understand while maintaining an environment that is fun and safe. Babysitting is a difficult yet rewarding line of work. It requires a unique kind of problem solving that allows me to interact with children in the way my babysitters interacted with me. It is a relationship different from a teacher, parent or friend, and yet it still gives me the opportunity to positively impact their life and help them gain the tools needed to achieve their goals and dreams. To me, there’s nothing more unifying and empowering than that-- participating in the ‘village’ of individuals to help promote the positive growth of a child. As I learn more about myself and follow my dreams, I am always delighted for the opportunity to push children to follow theirs.
