I love being a nanny because I have always had a strong maternal instinct. Growing up as the oldest of 5 children (the youngest 8 years younger than me) I am very nurturing, and understand that giving a child time and attention is essential to their well-being. As a nanny, I naturally develop close relationships with the children. Taking a genuine interest in what they have to say, encouraging children to share their feelings and doing things together (anything from me playing the "bad guy" in a nerf gun war to asking a child to help prepare dinner) creates an engaging environment and safe space in which a child feels loved, a sense of purpose, and comfortable sharing whatever is on their mind. I really appreciate the unreserved humor of children and still enjoy the simple pleasures of childhood, like PB&J and Legos. Most recently, I have worked as a Read more nanny for two different families. Between October 2013 and end of August 2014 I took care of a five, eight, and eleven year-old (two girls and a boy). The past two summers I have taken care of a nine and eleven year-old (boys). As a nanny, I prepare and serve meals, establish a balanced routine (chore/outside/reading/electronic times) and discipline bad behavior. I also do light housework as needed and coordinate activities such as playdates, fun projects and the occasional outing. I have extensive experiencing caring for children with moderate behavioral issues and ages ranging from 3 months to 12 years. Working as a nanny has led me to build strengths such as patience and the ability to positively interact with all kinds of personalities, along with great time management, leadership (kids can be very manipulative!) and multitasking skills. What I love most about working as a nanny is interacting closely with others and the variety in my daily routine. I am currently studies Global Gender Studies and Health and Human Services at UB, pursuing a career in Women's Health. I also take an aerial dance class, volunteer at Journey's End Refugee Services and am currently helping a professor do research for her latest book.
