Hi my name is Akua Peters. Ever since I’ve known myself I’ve always been interested in care taking. My first experience was within a school daycare in my community. I was responsible for assisting the teachers with educating 15-20 children at any given time. Some of my responsibilities were preparing a clean environment to eat snacks as well as their lunch. I was responsible for providing safe, caring, nurturing, and stimulating environment in which the children strive and develop. The eldest being no more than 5 years old however the majority were toddlers. I enjoyed spending time with the children playing games and helping them with their schoolwork. Keen attention was given to children who required special attention. After completing that assignment I ventured into a nursing home where I worked for over 4 years. There I learned patience, understanding, empathy, and sympathy. Over time I became very fond of Read more the residents. On the dementia floor you need to have control, think quickly, and assess problems, while treating them like family. I distinctly remember a resident that helped me to realize my purpose as a care giver. I’m currently in school becoming a surgical technologist and I would love to continue on this path of care taking. Thank you so much for considering me.
