My name is Katie Millay and am currently a junior at NYU. I am studying and working toward my certification in Early Childhood and Special Education. During my freshman and sophomore year of college, I worked for Jumpstart, an Americorps literacy building program for young children. With a team of four to six peers, I went to a daycare in the Lower East Side twice a week to run a two hour literacy building session. We would read books, sing songs, play games, and other fun activities. Outside the classroom, this job included regular team planning meetings to prepare materials and content for effective sessions. In my second year with Jumpstart, I was promoted from Corps Member to Team Leader. This role included running the sessions in classrooms, introducing and leading activities and games, and preparing the rest of my team to facilitate effective sessions. I also have experience as Read more a babysitter and a nanny. I have been babysitting for about five or six years. Two summers ago, I worked as a full time nanny for a three and four year old. I was responsible for getting them up in the morning, making breakfast, drop off and pick up from camp, activities in the afternoon, and making snacks and dinner. Last summer, I worked as a mother's helper and occasional babysitter for a seven year old with ADHD and a six year old with emotional delays. I also worked part time caring for a 21 year old with severe special needs. Currently, I am a weekly babysitter for twin six year olds and an 11 year old. I am responsible for feeding them dinner, making sure homework is done, and getting them to bed. I am also working as a tutor for a high school student in Algebra and Physics.
