Hi, my name is Joanne and I am currently working in Pelham N.Y. with a lovely family with three children ages 5, 4 and 1. I am returning to Maine to begin working on December 6. I have 2 adult children in Maine and look forward to our adventures together. I graduated in 1999 from UMO with a degree in Elementary Education with a Science concentration .I worked in a small school system for eleven years. A need arose in the community for a childcare facility so I opened a small Maine state certified facility in my home. I lived on an eleven- acre lot in Northern Maine with a pond and wooded trails which made it possible to take the children on frequent nature walks. Some of the indoor activities included playing the piano and singing with the children each morning, arts and crafts, and the use of my Read more extensive children’s library. We also traveled into town for library hour once a week, took part in community activities and made frequent visits to the nursing home to visit relatives. Fifteen years ago I moved to Southern Maine and was a lead older infant and toddler teacher in a classroom of ten children, with a co-teacher. The facility is a large National Association for the Education of Young Children certified center. The center follows the High Scope Curriculum where the activities are child directed. During those ten years, I trained beginning and experienced teachers, facilitated parent meetings, and co-teacher meetings. In addition, I attended a number of professional development trainings in early childhood development. Some of the activities in my classroom included a short sun salutation in the morning, reading corner, time spent at the sensory table, arts and crafts as well as a dance party every Friday. For the past 5 years I have been a nanny in Pelham N.Y. The family has grown to 3 children including a 5 year old boy and 2 girls, age 4 and 1! Through their development I have accommodated their interests from dinosaurs, insects, fairy princesses and kitty cats into our integrated learning. I try different techniques to reach children’s imaginations so that learning makes sense and they gain intuition and wonder about the world. I love learning along with the children and seeing their development. I am returning to Maine and seeking a nanny position with a warm loving family!
