I am a graduate of New York University with a Masters degree in Public Health. I obtained my Bachelors in English from the University of Connecticut. Previously, I worked at the Harlem Children's Zone tutoring students in grades K-4 and participated in workshops designed to improve teaching skills. I educated children on how to use technology to their benefit by teaching reading skills through computer programs. I was then promoted to a student advocate position in which I Worked with a caseload of 12- 20 students ranging from 5th to 8th grade. I helped with homework and made home visits. My main responsibility was to act as a liaison between parents, schools, and students. My experience continued to grow as I became an education specialist with New Alternatives for Children, a foster care agency that specializes in working with families that have children with mental and physical disabilities. My duties were to facilitate IEP meetings and communicate regularly with Universities and Colleges to advocate for students both academically and financially. I ensured that medically fragile students received all resources and services available to them and their families. In addition, my mother is one of ten and I have spent my life caring for and educating cousins of all ages and personalities.
