Hello! My name is Jordan, I'm 25 and I can't wait to get to know your family! I gradated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2012 with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, which is using recreation activities as therapy for people with special needs. In my work I have been able to serve kids and adults (newborns to 102!) with and without special needs in so many different settings. In addition to working in the special needs community, I dream of being a writer. For the past four years I have worked as a full-time nanny and house manager to help this dream come true. My first family and I worked together for almost three years. They had an incredibly gifted little boy (4 when I started) who quizzed me on all things all the time. In addition to being gifted and the challenges that come with that, we Read more worked a lot on age appropriate social skills and sensory needs he had. They also had the sweetest little girl who had Down Syndrome and a G-tube. She could win you over in a millisecond flat without trying. We spent a lot of time at PT, OT, Feeding Therapy, and implementing those therapeutic strategies at home. When we found down time, the kids and I loved going to the park, attractions around town, playing outside, and going to the pool. After this family, I spent a little less than a splitting my time between two families. One of them had a 6 year old girl and a 4 year old boy. These two were some of the most adventurous kids I've ever met! We spent almost all of our time outside exploring the woods, playing on the trampoline, making up games and shows, reading, and doing arts and crafts. The last family I was with had four kids. Two boys and two girls, ages 7, 4, 14 months, and 4 months when I started. The oldest boy ad Autism and the oldest girl had sensory seeking needs. Our time was spent playing make believe, building with legos, and balancing the babies needs. In addition to typical child care needs, I also took care of house-keeping, errand running, therapy and doctor's appointments, schedule management, laundry, meal-prep, and anything else the family needed of me. Serving families is a joy. I love allowing parents to come home to a clean house and happy kids. I'll be relocating to New York City soon and would love to talk with you about how I can make your life easier and richer!
