I love kids (and the vast majority of them seem to love me) & I've worked as a babysitter- off and on- since I was probably about 14 in the traditional friends of my parents need a sitter sortof way. During the last year I was in college and for some time after college I combined casual weekends/date-night babysitting with long-term nanny positions. I'm a classically trained artist and more than happy to paint, draw, or whatever with your kids. I tend to keep the TV off and think that children should play and spend as much time outside as weather permits. I spent over a year, 2011-2012, as a full time nanny for a little boy -9 months when I started- and for his little sister who showed up 2 months after his first birthday. I was there from the time that she was 2 weeks old and took Read more him through teething, daily schedule setting (for both of them), and his transition to solid foods. In 2009 I spent over 6 months as a Fri-Sun nanny for a pair of parent with a restaurant and a 12 month old. Due to the nature of their restaurant work I worked from before breakfast/brunch service to whenever the restaurant finished dinner service, usually meaning 2 meals and bed-time rituals each day. A very active, stroller-hating child we took long walks to the park and all around town, as well as lots of finger painting! I'm also regularly babysitting for a pair of local families one with a 10 month old and a 5 year old, the other with 5 and 7 year old, for parent date-nights and (last summer) for Mom's softball league. I've babysat up to 11 or 12 year olds in the past and am comfortable doing so again, even though they don't always think they need a 'sitter.
