I am an undergraduate at the University of Michigan planning on pursuing a Masters in Teaching after completing my BA. This summer I was a nanny for two families each with three lovely children. I would love nothing more than to continue caring for and tutoring children during the school year in the Ann Arbor area. Philosophy: I believe that the most important aspect of childcare is presence. Children need to feel that they are heard, loved, and respected, as well as to be engaged and guided with outdoor and learning activities for their emotional and educational development. When this is provided alongside the privilege of choice (with boundaries), the self-satisfaction, sense of control, and confidence needed for future productive citizens as well as happy, healthy children develops. In my experience, when a mutually-respectful relationship is created between the children and the sitter/tutor, and when the children are encouraged to Read more make their own guided choices whenever possible, proper behavior—safe, kind, respectful, and wise—comes more effortlessly. Experience: I have a 2-year certification in Advanced Childcare and Pediatric CPR/First Aid. I have multiple years of experience as a full-time summer nanny for children between the ages of one month to eight years in households with multiple children. I also have babysat for multiple families with infants. I have past experience tutoring high school and college students, but would especially love the chance to work with elementary students, given that I am working toward a teacher's certificate in Elementary Education. I take child-care very seriously and have a strict no-phone policy while I am working, except for incoming calls from parents and for check-ins with parents. When children are sleeping or completing an activity, I complete light cleaning around the house (dishes, children’s laundry, vacuum, etc.) and to-do lists created by parents. In the fall, I am available on Monday and Wednesday evenings, Fridays, and weekends. I am comfortable and have experience with transporting children to and from activities (practice, lessons, tutoring sessions. etc.) and school, running errands (picking up orders, grocery shopping), and interacting with visitors (cable technicians, painters, house keepers, carpet cleaners, etc.).
