I have always had an interest in working with young children. I have many years of experience and enjoy doing it. I began my career with children right out of high school when I accepted a job as a Nursing Assistant at Kettering Hospital on the Mother/Baby Unit working with newborn babies and new mothers (2002-2006). At the hospital, I cared for newborn babies by bathing them, feeding them, changing their diapers, checking their vitals, and comforting them when they cried. During my career at the hospital, I met a wonderful family who just had twin boys and I became very close to this family. After their hospital stay, they asked me to babysit their twins part-time and I babysat them for about 1.5 years (2002-2004). In 2004, I began working for a family that had a 4 year old son. I cared for him by playing with him indoors Read more and outdoors, enhancing his developmental skills, teaching him manners, preparing meals for him, and taking him places (piano lessons, preschool, camp, etc...). In May, 2005, they had a baby girl and I cared for her as well. I changed her diaper, clothed her, fed her, worked with her on developmental skills, comforted her when she cried, and put her down for naps. I worked consistently for this family from 2004-2006. In 2007, after this family moved to Colorado, they brought me out to their home and I watched their children for a week while they went on vacation. From January, 2007-June, 2015 I worked for Early Head Start in 2 different positions. My job duties in these position are as follows: • Assigned to at-risk families with children prenatal to 3 years of age who were disadvantaged families and/or the children had a disability • Observed and enhanced infant’s and toddler’s cognitive, social-emotional, language, self-help, fine motor, and gross motor skills • Utilized a federal mandated program to teach parents how to work with their children on their own, to help enhance their child’s developmental abilities • Implemented developmental activities, according to age, by using a federally mandated program, and sorted these activities out to develop a weekly lesson plan • Monitored the children’s development by using federally mandated screenings • When a delay was suspected within a child’s development they were referred to an Early Intervention Specialist to receive additional services • Introduced families to needed resources and services out in the community
