I am a certified teacher in my home state of New Jersey for elementary education (K-5) and special education (K-12). (I am pursuing similar credentials in the state of Oregon.) I worked in various roles in a public school for 4 years, following 3 years during which I worked seasonally. I have been called on in numerous situations for childcare or private tutoring, which are greatly fulfilling and allow me to support the needs of the individual child up-close. I have worked with children aged 6 months-11years in those settings. I was also a frequent relief sitter for a recently widowed father's 2 children. I hold a Master of Arts in teaching, specializing in students with disabilities. I am First Aid and CPR certified. For the past 4 years, Read more I have been a youth minister.While I greatly enjoyed that line of work, frequent late evenings meant I rarely saw my husband. I am now seeking opportunities that allow me to be home most evenings. I have seen time and again how children learn their value and their values from the people around them. I am intentional about giving each child my full attention and support, pursuing their interests, and learning from their simple wisdom while, hopefully, imparting some as well. I believe in challenging children to think critically and look through a different perspective, and in celebrating the little successes along the way. I love music and art, and enjoy creating things. I like cooking and baking, board games--the sillier the better--and card games. Outside is one of my favorite places, whether it's going for a hike or jumping in puddles. Given the opportunity, I could spend days at a time solving puzzles or reading. I love pets (except snakes and tarantulas!), though I have none due to my husband's allergies. I have serious allergies to rabbits and cigarette smoke. The current highlight of my life is frequent weekends in Everett visiting my 15-month-old nephew.
