Hello, Portland families! My name is Tracy McFarland and I am a teacher looking for a summer position as a nanny in the N, NE, or NW Portland area (with potential for long-term). I hold a Masters Degree in Teaching from The Evergreen State College (endorsed in middle school Math and Science). I have been caring for, teaching, and mentoring children since I was eight years old. In the course of my career, I have nannied for 15 families, worked with children in a one-room schoolhouse, taught in both private and public schools, facilitated outdoor environmental education, summer camps, and conducted one-on-one and small group tutoring. My job is to keep children safe, supported, loved, and engaged. When I am with children I naturally model awareness in the world around me: social, emotional, and physical awareness of myself and others. I am inspired to simply follow the child’s lead. Life Read more at any age is about growth and expansion, and just as I strive for these elements in my own life, it is my honor to facilitate this evolution in the children I work with. Some of my favorite activities with children are spending time outdoors, discovering the magic of nature, reading stories, making up stories, singing, dancing, building, painting, being silly, doing crafts, petting cats, making food, and making fun. I love learning with children through imaginative play (which can be done at any age!). I am 6’2” and kids totally delight in my giant-ness. I was blessed with big teeth and I smile often! I have a gentle and authoritative attitude toward discipline. I ask questions and hold myself and children responsible for our words and actions. I work out problems by talking them through, and can recognize when giving space might be the first step to resolving a conflict. I try not to talk more than necessary! I am extremely honest with parents about both my own behavior and their children’s, and encourage kids to share their side of any challenging situation. Please contact me if you think I might be a good match for your family. I look forward to hearing from you!
