My employment background includes working with both primary and intermediate grades. For five years, I worked at the Boys and Girls Club of America in Redmond, Washington, where I planned educational activities for students in an after school program, demonstrated effective classroom management, and developed opportunities for community building. In my field work through the University of Portland, I worked in grades from kindergarten to third grade, where I worked with small groups of students and led short activities within instruction. While working with the Moreau Center at the University of Portland, I was also able to volunteer at Resurrection school in Montgomery, Alabama, and KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) school in Memphis, Tennessee as a part of a Civil Rights Immersion, where I was able to develop many skills in culturally responsive teaching. At my current student teaching placement, Kelly Creek Elementary in Gresham, Oregon, I have gained incredible Read more experience in working with common core standards and curriculum in planning my lessons, using a variety of assessments to progress monitor students, and collaborating with my grade level team in planning effective and engaging instruction.
