My husband and I moved back to Oregon in July 2016 from Hawaii (my home state) to homestead a small property near Sweet Home. We have been busy taming the property and renovating the old 1930s house here, taking a year or so off from work to do that. Our two grown children are now independent young adults also living and working here in Oregon. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and was certified in Oregon in 1989. I substituted K-12 in the Salem school district for a year and a half, then taught second grade in Hawaii for one year before having our son. I stayed home for seven years with our children and went back to work in 1999 as a substitute teacher for one year. From 2000 to 2016 I worked at Kualapuu Public Conversion Charter School as a certified part-time teacher under a federal Read more grant for native Hawaiian children. During that time I worked mostly with first graders, but also with every level from kindergarten through 6th grade with a focus on reading instruction. Working with children is one of my talents and passions. I received excellent training at Western Oregon State College (now Western Oregon University) with a focus on early childhood/multicultural education. I loved raising my own children. I enjoy figuring out how to help any child learn and grow into a happy, secure person. And since I only need to work a few hours a week, I think a nanny job with the right family might be a very good fit for me. I am firm, fair and friendly. I believe children thrive when they know they are loved. They need clear expectations and consequences along with positive routines including work and play times. Well-behaved pets are just fine with me but I absolutely cannot work in your home if anyone smokes in the home. I do regular volunteer educational work in the community and have a few set commitments, so would need to negotiate a schedule that works for your family and for me.
