I started babysitting almost four years ago for a neighbor family with four children: three boys and the youngest, a girl. Since then, I have been babysitting off and on for a former teacher with two elementary school aged boys and also for my mom's friend who has two young girls. I also babysat routinely for a family with four children who I met through care.com. My time with them mainly consisted of driving them to and from school and extracurricular activities. I ended up coaching the 6-year old's soccer team, too, which was a great experience! Aside from traditional babysitting, I also worked in the kids care section of a gym called Boom Fitness near my house in Tigard. I could have anywhere from 0-12 kids ages 6mo. to 12 years old at any given time and I was the only one working in the area during my shift Read more so I gained a lot of experience in organized chaos :) No, but it was really good in developing patience as well as boundaries so as to maintain the safety and well-being of each child. I have also had experience working with kids through my church. Each summer we go to the beach for a week-long overnight camp. I grew up going as a camper, but when I got too old I went back to help as a cabin staff. I spent one year at the elementary school camp and one year at the middle school camp. I have also worked as a Sunday school helper as well as a children's ministry aid one night a week while the children's parents met with their small groups. During my senior year of high school I took a child development class that focused primarily on the preschool years. We then got to put our learning into practice by helping out in the preschool that was attached to our high school. We each got a "buddy" and we did activities with them as well as just got to know them! It was valuable learning. I am in the process of registering for a CPR/first-aid course. I have not yet gotten the certification, but I plan to have it in the near future. I also speak Spanish and English!
