I have taught in a public school in Pennsylvania for 18 years. I taught kindergarten and second grade. I recently resigned due to the amount of testing young ones are expected to participate in, the fast pace that really takes the fun right out of learning and the lack of support in place with major behavior needs. In August of 2016 I started an early learning program in my home geared toward 3 and 4 year olds. It turns out there was a great interest from the 2 year old group! So I do a 2 day group for 2 year olds and a 3 day group for the 3 and 4 year olds. Oh my gosh!! My heart is so full it could burst now! Not only can I use my years of teaching to plant hundreds of little seeds each and every day, I am able to NURTURE Read more the kids when they need it. Public school really restricts the way you nurture kids. In addition, there is no time! Which frustrates me beyond belief. Finally, My two sons are now teenagers. I am no longer wanted or snuggled. Experiencing true little ones again make my heart do a little happy dance. My Little Learner experience has been focused on education, but their age requires me to also mother them. Since my husband told me he is ready to leave the snow and move toward the sun, I noticed job posts for Nannies. As long as I can make what I make now being a nanny and still have my evenings, weekends and holidays with my family, I think this type of job may be just perfect for this time in my life. I am sad my boys are growing up and I have so much to offer as a teacher of young minds. I would like to try it! I would also like to mention that I would be VERY INTERESTED in homeschooling children younger than 8. Right now my Little Learner business helps the kids get ready for "big school". I know everyone of them will be able to participate without frustration when they enter public school. That right there is a rewarding feeling. We are looking to relocate to NC. I have been looking around the Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Morrisville area. My husband's job offers will most likely determine where we end up though. I just thought I would put this out there to see if there is an interest for someone like me. I like being home opposed to "hustle and bustle". Inspiring young minds in authentic ways is my thing. In the end, the most meaningful experiences make the greatest impact on learning. Those things happen best just by living life!
