I have ten years experience working as a Special Needs Care Giver. I worked with two different families; the first one for four years and the second for seven years. The first family consisted of three boys. The oldest boy was diagnosed with ADHD. The two younger boys had emotional and behavioral problems related to their family environment. They lived with their Grandparents at the time; who had custody of them at the time not their parents. It was quite difficult for them to adjust. In the second family I just recently finished watching a boy and a girl. The boy from this family was diagnosed with Apraxia at three years of age. Apraxia is a neurological condition ; and there are a number of different types. The boy I watched had trouble with speech and motor skills. Later he was diagnosed with ADHD. He also got upset easily and Read more was a very sensitive and emotional child. He also had a hard time focusing on school work and homework. He also had dyslexia and dyscalculia which made it very difficult for him as well as frustrating to read, write, and do mathematics. I am CPR certified, however, I will have to get re-certified which I am willing to do. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Art Therapy from Arcadia University. I therefore have a background in Art and Psychology. I am an Artist;I love to draw and paint. I also have a Associates Degree in Liberal Arts/ Humanities. Which also means I have a History, English, and Theater background as well. I have no certifications yet but I am hoping to get my Master's and certification in Teaching Art to Special Populations at Moore College of Art and Design. The population I am most interested in working with now and at Moore is Down Syndrome. I love to do crafts and work with clay with children. I also am willing to run around out side and climb trees if they like. I run and do yoga. I have a lot of energy . I love to read to children and play with toys: I do voices and have an active imagination. I love to entertain children and make them laugh and have fun. I also as mentioned before ; like to help them with homework and projects as wells educate them. I also can be strict if they act up. There are two ways I deal with that they are: I give them a time-out and if they are younger; I pretend to call the parents. I have references I can bring to a interview/meeting. I also am willing to get a child abuse and criminal background check which I will pay for.
Trust & safety
We encourage parents to conduct their own screenings using the background check tools. See what each of the badges covered, or learn more about keeping your family safe by visiting the Trust & Safety Center.
