Hello, my name is Megan and I am 26 years old. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Drexel University and have been teaching Pre-K for the past three years. I would love to work with children on a smaller scale! I have a lot of experience working with children. Between 2005 and 2007 babysat for 2 young boys, beginning when they were 2 and 4 years old. The family also had a small dog, who I also cared for while I was working. In 2008 I worked for Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey as a family support specialist. I attended summer camp with two children with special needs and provided them with support during typical summer camp activities. These children were ages 9 and 12. In the summer of 2009 I worked with Spiral Q Puppet Theater as a teaching assistant. I aided two teachers in puppet-making Read more classes for ninth grade students. In 2010 I spent 3 months working with 1st graders in the classroom in South Philadelphia. I helped them with their classwork and taught lessons in reading and writing. I spent the summer of 2010 in Spain working as an au pair for a family living in Olot. The two boys were ages 9 and 11 and the girl was 6 years old. I was responsible for tutoring the children in English, incorporating English into everyday activities, as well as care taking when the parents were not present. In 2011 I spent 3 months doing my student teaching, working with 1st graders in the classroom in West Philadelphia. In this position I taught lessons in reading, writing, and mathematics as well as lead many of the daily classroom routines. I have the most experience with children between the ages of 2 and 7, however I have worked with children up to age 14. I love animals and have experience with pets, as I currently have a cat and two guinea pigs. When working with children, I want them to feel that there is structure. I aim to develop a positive, comfortable relationship in which we can have fun and explore the world together. I love being creative and trying new things. I think that children deserve our highest attention and respect, and we should do everything we can to help them develop healthily and happily. I am CPR and First Aid certified.
