Hi! My name is Lina, I’m a 24 years old recent graduate from the master’s program in human development at UPenn. I’m looking for new families to work with through at least the summer - and hopefully beyond! I have 5 years of experience working with children between 1 and 12, both boys and girls. Prior to entering my master's program, I studied developmental psychology throughout college. I also have 4 years of experience working in child development labs, and have conducted my own research in child literacy on a stipend. I have also studied shyness in children, and how children in various cultures interact with their peers. I have loved all the families I’ve worked with and become very close with them. I really value and honor my relationship with the children and families I work with, and I hope to be able to work with families who share Read more that value. I've found that my combination of an academic background in child development as well as direct experience working with children has been useful when babysitting. I can make informed decisions in my job, while knowing the reality of taking care of children. I also come from a large extended family and have over 20 first cousins, with me as the oldest child, so taking care of children comes very naturally to me. I thoroughly enjoy being able to embrace my childish side and to get to goof around with children. I would say that is the biggest perk of babysitting - it's fun! I also enjoy the nurturing aspect of babysitting. In terms of my babysitting philosophy, I think that a child’s happiness comes first. At the same time, I believe in challenging children to develop their independence and critical thinking. Being a child should be both fun and stimulating! Beyond that, I follow the parents’ philosophies on things like TV watching, diet etc. I don't see my role primarily as a disciplinarian, but I don't have issues with enforcing certain rules you have as a parent. When it comes to diet, I'm adaptive to different food philosophies. I myself am vegan (but I have no issues at all preparing meat for your child if they eat that) and have food allergies so I'm naturally pretty conscious of food and what we put in our bodies. Lastly, I have language skills in several languages (primarily Swedish and Amharic) and play the piano, if that's of interest to your family. I hope to hear from you! Lina
