I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Psychology. Within this degree, I have taken classes specifically geared toward developmental psychology and child psychology. These courses greatly improved my understanding of how development unfolds throughout infancy, childhood, and adolescence. For example, I was required to work with children individually outside of the classroom for a direct observation of the developmental theories which we were learning throughout the course. Also, through classes like biopsychology and neuropsychology, I've gained an understanding of the physical side of child development, including the importance of essentials such as activity, rest and good nutrition. Overall, this degree has provided a wealth of knowledge regarding child development, both mentally and physically. My interest in this area, combined with a caring and compassionate spirit, lead me to desire a career in either psychology or nutrition in the future. As a result, I have really enjoyed my numerous past babysitting jobs, which I have held briefly throughout my high school and college careers. I dedicated most of this time to athletics, which landed me a scholarship to a Division 1 University to play basketball. Consequently, I did not have much time to hold a steady job, as I was usually at school year-round to train and take classes. However, when my schedule would permit, I would find nannying positions near my high school and university. My background in athletics would also be beneficial as a nanny/sitter, as I understand the importance of being active, and I also enjoy being active and outdoors - things which I believe are crucial in a child's life. At the same time, I understand the importance of rest and good nutrition. Throughout my years as an athlete, I have had to understand how to balance these essentials in order to live a healthy lifestyle and keep up with the training regimen. Specifically, nutrition has become an area of major interest to me, as I enjoy learning about the affect of food on both the physical and mental aspects of health and development. Overall, my background in athletics will be beneficial to my role as a nanny in that I have an understanding of the components that lead to a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages. Finally, I am adventurous and love to learn. Therefore, I am often reading or finding to places/things to see!
