I am the oldest of 6 children and thus began babysitting at a very young age. At 10 years old I would take care of my two brothers, who were 3 and 4 years of age at the time, while our parents ran errands, went to the movies, or did any other things they needed to. Around the same time I was also asked to start babysitting for the children of family friends and my mother's co-workers. When I was in high school I used to volunteer at the Elementary School that my Mother worked at. She was a para-professional at the time and I would assist with the daily needs of her and her special-needs students. The majority of her students were children with Aspergers or somewhere along the Autism spectrum. In the first two years of my undergraduate career I worked with an AmeriCorps program called Jumpstart. Through Read more this program I taught preschool aged children who were considered "underprivileged" and assisted in preparing them to enter elementary school with the tools they needed to succeed in learning. At 26 years of age I am now a CPR/First Aid certified adult who has not only babysat and nannied for years but have also taught pre-school and pre-kindergarten after graduating from college. I have a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, focusing on Psychology, and am now taking weekend course work to obtain my Master's in Social Work. My current job is as a Domestic Violence Educator and I go to schools in four different towns to teach grades 8-12 about topics ranging from Conflict Resolution to Safety & Technology. Prior to working as an Educator I was a counselor for children who have experienced trauma and before that I worked as a preschool/pre-kindergarten teacher in Connecticut. I greatly enjoy working with children of all ages and all walks of life. I have never felt happier doing a job than when that job involves working with children and adolescents. I love to teach and open doors to the future for kids. I also greatly enjoy things like imaginative play, as well as playing board games, outdoor games and reading.
