To begin with a little about myself, I am a newlywed (my husband and I were married in March 2014) and we live 5-10 minutes from downtown Nashville with our two cats. My experience as a caregiver has largely been scattered around academics (during my high school and college years), though recently I enjoyed a temporary nanny assignment from very late March 2014 through mid-November 2014. Collectively my duties as a nanny have involved making lunches and dinners as needed, helping with homework, housework such as cleaning and folding laundry, tidying rooms, and even cleaning and maintaining pools, feeding pets, and chauffeuring children to and from play dates and activities. In the past 5-6 years, I have taken care of several age groups ranging from 6 weeks old to 12 years old. I do my best to interact with kids and keep them engaged in a project or activity. One little boy I watched just loved play dough and listening to books. We always made play dough creations as soon as I arrived and we read books for at least an hour before bedtime. Those were his favorite things. Another boy enjoyed playing outside more than anything. Swimming, nature walks, rocks and bugs were his enjoyments. One of the girls I took care of was a "girly-girl" and loved animals. She always told me about her puppies and kitties and carried little figurine pets in a fluffy, sparkly purse. When caring for infants and new babies, I am very cautious. Their safety and comfort is my biggest priority. I also make sure to interact with them as much as possible by speaking to them and telling stories, holding them, making expressive faces and playing games. It is important to me to know a child as an individual. For this reason, I will listen to them and observe what their own interests are in order to understand and communicate with them and form a friendship.

When I went back to work I was looking for some stability for my children so I sought a Nanny who the kids and I could build a longer term relationship with. In Hannah we found that person. She has been an amazing addition to our lives. My children love spending time with her. As a parent the things that I appreciate about her are: 1) Terrific attitude and very calm demeanor. My children are mostly easy going, but like all children they have their moments. Hannah never gets flustered or yells. She calmly defuses the situation, or provides space for the children to calm themselves down. 2) Goes above and beyond what I ask. With the exception of keeping the laundry going I didn't ask Hannah to be my cleaner as well, but quite often I would come home to find the house had been tidied. 3) Worked with me in regards to how I wanted my children raised and the values I wanted to emphasize. Hannah and I have discussed the key values I view as important. For example I place value on the kids getting their homework done, and cleaning up after themselves (as opposed to an adult doing all the cleaning) , and she ensures these things get done. I could go on at length about how excellent Hannah is, but you probably get the picture by now. She has been a terrific hire and I couldn't recommend her highly enough.
