I am the oldest of six, so my first experiences with child care were babysitting my younger siblings. As I got older I started watching the neighbor's children, and eventually became a nanny while I was pursuing my undergraduate degree in Olympia, WA. When I was 18 I spent several months in Zambia, Africa where I volunteered at different orphanages. At some I worked primarily with infants and toddlers under 3 years of age, and at others I focused my time caring for special needs children. One orphanage took solely children who had vision impairments , or were completely blind, while another had a program for children with cerebral palsy. This was an amazing experience for me and helped fuel my desire to study global issues, and eventually led to my decision to focus on women's health, early childhood development, and to become a Doula as well as a massage Read more therapist: caring for others is a big piece of my fulfillment in this life. Apart from being a nanny and volunteering I've also worked at several summer camps for children. One job was at a botanical garden and focused on teaching botany related topics, and one was at a Jewish heritage camp where young Jewish people would come together over the summer to learn about their heritage. I was also employed at a Montessori preschool working with infants and toddlers aged 2 months to 2 years, and loved every minute of it. I spent a year working for two wonderful families in Austin, Texas with children ranging from 3 months to 2 years. Since then, I began to pursue a career in massage therapy. If interested, providing massage could be a part of my relationship with your family as well. Tired parents can always use a little self care! I also have worked as a housekeeper and cook before so I don't mind a little housework on the side if needed.
