Hello! I am a graduate student at St. Edward's University, studying to be a counselor. My natural skills of attunement, empathy, and warm personality has made it my goal is to work with children who have been neglected or abused, and thus exhibit behavioral problems. While I've spent much time working with such children in the past, both in residential environments and in private homes, I've also had a vast amount of experience caring for children who who have come from loving and nurturing homes. Academically speaking, and for the future of my career, I think it is important to surround myself with children who've grown up in every sort of environment. However, that's not why I'm looking to be a nanny. I could apply at a day care if I just wanted to be surrounded by children in order to observe them. No. I want to be a nanny Read more because I want that special connection you get when you help a child develop and grow and know that you were a special part of their lives. That is what makes nannying such a special endeavor. I've been taking care of kiddos since I was one myself, babysitting cousins when I was 11 or 12. I certainly knew how to change a diaper well before then! In high school, I spent two years as a nanny for an 8 year old girl. In college I worked as a nanny for a year for a newborn girl, and then that was when my experience with children consisted of work with the neglected and abused. Recently, however, I have come back to nannying, and I have had the privilege of helping a little girl grow from 3 weeks to 3 years old. My training to be a counselor has exposed me to multiple classes in child development, so I have a unique ability to know how to interact with babies and children in a way that can maximize their development. My work with behaviorally maladaptive children has also given me a wealth of experience in skills such as not engaging in power struggles, implementing token economies, behavioral modification methods when it comes to tantrums and other outbursts. and maintaining boundaries.
