My name is Shanna and I am a mother of 2 incredible boys (4 and 8 months) who I enjoy very much. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (specialized in dance) and have spent the last 8 years teaching dance to a wide range of age groups- 5 to adults. In addition to dance, I enjoy a lot of other physical activities including yoga and other forms of exercise. Due to my love of dance and movement, I encourage my 4 year old to participate in physical activities- he plays soccer and we’ll often practice yoga together. I strongly believe that children should play and move and I try to find times everyday to get outside or go do something active. So, when weather permits, we go on lots of walks and play at the park. I also love to read, even though most of it these days Read more consists of picture books. My sons and I are regulars at the library and I am an advocate for early childhood reading. I think reading to our children is one of the best things we can do for them. I organize and teach a monthly story time for my neighbors and community members in my home. I am a mom, so I expect kids to be kind, respectful, clean up after themselves, and have age appropriate responsibilities. I try to find a good balance of fun and work for children because I believe both are valuable. I have a lot of experience working and being with kids. I was a nanny to 4 kids in my early teens, and to a nephew & niece & regular sitter for neighbors currently. I have worked with kids a lot through teaching dance, my church organization, and through play groups that I participate in with neighbors. Because I have worked outside the home, I know how hard it can be to find a trusted sitter. I want to offer quality childcare to help other working moms, but I also think it is good for my sons to have interactions with other children and to build friendships, so I want to be clear that my sons would be part of the sitter deal. I am happy to have children come to my home, I have baby gates and cupboard locks and lots of toys for kids to play with, or if circumstances are right, I could take my boys to other’s houses. I’m willing to offer affordable solutions for families, but I’m not willing to compromise time with my children to do it. I did complete CPR training before adopting my son, also this wasn't an option in the certification section below, but I feel like it should be, so I am including here-Certification: Motherhood!
