Hi, My name is Carla Jean Kooij. When I was in junior high and high school I sat regularly for a family of 5 who always requested me over other sitters. The children were a "handful" but I was able to be firm, patient and have fun with the children too! Although my husband and I were not blessed to have children -- I have the experience, (12+ years), work ethic, reliability, personality and skills with children of all ages to do a great job. I used to give puppet shows to children at hospitals. Now I just bring my puppets with me in case the children want to make a puppet show or just play with them. I enjoy getting to know each family. I enjoy having the children "problem solve" by reading a story and then when I get to a point in the story where a character faces a problem or needs to make a decision, I stop reading and ask the child to describe what he/she might do in a similar situation. For rainy days, we have played "Dance & Freeze!" where you have the radio or CD playing and you start to dance with the kiddies. Then turn the music off randomly and suprise the kids by saying "Freeze!" If they don't freeze, they can be out, or you can just continue to play without the elimination. There are lots of learning games and I have taught the vowels to 2 year olds using the puppets too. Do you have any specific caregiving philosophy? (Absolutely no sweets? One hour of exercise?) Carla was so sweet and nice! She was on time and even brought her puppet collection for our son to play with; which he just loved. She sent us pictures of him while we were out and was just a delight to have as our sitter. We would definitely recommend Carla for any of your sitter needs!

I was traveling to visit family for two weeks, and Carla took care of my three cats. One is 18 years old and the other two are adopted sisters who are three years plus. While away, I recieved pictures of my cats, and reports as to how they were doing. Carla would sit with my 18 year old and pet him for 20-30 minutes daily. And, then she would use the laser light to play with the younger cats. The cats were not traumatized by my absence because of the love and care they received. I would use Carla any time that I need to travel.

Carla helped us with our two BIG dogs for over a week while on spring break. Before we left, we did a walk through a few times so she wouldn't skip a beat and she took notes. While on vacation, after the first couple initial calls, I knew our dogs were in good hands. I recommend Carla for your pet-sitting needs.
