One of my favorite quotes is from philosopher Maimonides: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." When it comes to the care and nurture of children, I believe it is important to help them navigate the ever changing world around them by seeking teachable moments. This happens best when there are opportunities for discovery learning, such as going to the park, museums, the library, etc. Families have entrusted me with the care of their precious children for the past 15 years (doing the math, that would be since I was 12 years old). These families included 1-8 children households and I served their families in a number of capacities ranging in hourly babysitting, weekend overnight care, transportation to an from sport events or school programs, light housework, meal preparations, etc. In the 2007-2008 Read more school year, I provided care for children of teachers at a school in Stafford VA. While in college, I spent my summers working in youth and children's camps and my free time through out the school year tutoring kids at local schools in reading and math, as well as tutoring in English as a Second Language. I have been CPR and First aid certified, as well as a certified lifeguard. My certifications are currently expired, however I am scheduled to re-certify the First aid and CPR this month. Having achieved a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, I returned to the D.C. area and spent about a year and a half working in the public schools as a substitute teacher and also a PALs Tutor while also working part time as an Administrative Assistant at Pillar Church. In 2014, my position as the Administrative Assistant became full time and in 2015 I began directing our children's programs as well. Over the past year, I have also taken care of a 10 year old girl with special needs; getting her ready for the day, taking her to therapy sessions, and occasionally providing overnight care.
