We hired Noza (Shakhnoza) as our babysitter. It was evident from the beginning that neither she nor her husband has assimilated the American culture. It was very odd having her husband participating even in the initial interview. However, we tried to be fair and give her a chance. I believe it could happen to all of us going to a different country and trying to live under different cultural settings and beliefs. Cultural assimilation and acceptance is extremely important as foreign nationals (including us if we go to live to other countries) and we cannot pretent to extend our cultural beliefs in our new environment. Noza preferred to stay in the room with our baby, showing no initiative and limiting herself to very few tasks. Her English was very limited and she cannot communicate simple things. Her husband constantly interacted, which was unexpected and unwelcome, showing an attitude of being dominant and in control of the relationship with Noza. A nosy husband, who wants to find out about everything and ultimately a troublemaker who pushes and negatively influences Noza constantly.
