Hi! My name is Mindy and I am 26 years old. I have worked with children since I was about 14 years old, and I absolutely love spending my time with kids. I graduate from nursing school in May of this year. I worked at a day camp in New York for about seven summers, particularly with kids ages 3-4, though I was also placed with kids from the age of 2 to about 12. I have been babysitting for about the same time, including steadily on Friday/Saturday nights. I worked with the same family in New York for almost 10 years; their two girls were 2 and 4 when I started caring for them (I was their camp counselor!) and they are now wonderful young adults. When they were too old for a babysitter, I babysat for their cousins, and miss them very much! As an undergraduate, I was Read more a mother's helper for a family with four boys, one of whom had many developmental and behavioral challenges. I majored in psychology, and therefore have a great deal of experience with therapeutic communication and I also have a good sense of developmental milestones and expectations of children at various stages. This understanding is incredibly helpful in determining ways to interact with children. As a mother's helper, I met the boys at their bus stops, helped their mom make lunches for the following day, assisted the kids with their homework, encouraged some outdoor play time, and helped with the bath time/bedtime routine. I kept the boys happy and healthy, and we had lots of fun! I formerly worked as a case manager at a group home and rehabilitation center for adults and children with disabilities. My primary role was finding services for consumers and their families. These positions required a great deal of compassion, patience, organization and professionalism. I'm a compassionate person with a great deal of patience, and know how to be loving but firm. I have found distraction to be very effective! I am an active person and love taking children to local parks and other activities. I also love to encourage reading, do arts and crafts, and trying new things. I'm happy to work with any family regarding discipline that is most effective for their children; I am very receptive to a parents' outlook on discipline and handling difficult situations as well.
