I recently graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Studies. Within my major, I combined area studies of Asia and Africa with a thematic concentration in art. This is exemplified in my Senior Honors Thesis which focused on the history, use, and impact of street art in Nepal, Burma, Kenya, and Tanzania. My project stemmed from my passion for travel, culture, photography, and painting, combining just a few of my many interests. I love learning and am constantly researching the world around me and thinking about how it all fits together. Last summer, I worked at Brooklyn Boulders, a rock climbing gym in Somerville, Massachusetts. As a returning member of the children’s summer camp staff, I was given more responsibility in teaching the safety of a rock climbing gym. Each day consisted of climbing, but as the week progressed, I worked to incorporate a Read more variety of STEM-based activities to keep the students consistently entertained and engaged. The risky nature of climbing required that I clearly communicate rules and safety techniques in an age-appropriate manner, for students ranging from kindergarten to middle school. I learned how to communicate and work with many types of learners and accommodate a variety of attention spans. My experience at Brooklyn Boulders inspired me to want to work with kids in my future. This may take the form of teaching eventually, but I prefer more one on one relationships where I can share my knowledge and creative energy as well as learn from the engaging minds of children. Creating a mutually beneficial relationship on the basis of learning, overcoming challenges, and enjoying the world around you is what I strive for in my life and what I tried to establish with my campers last summer. I hope to carry this on in every aspect of my life and believe this is what would make me a great asset to your family. I would love to work for your family! I am quite familiar with New York City, though I grew up in Vermont. In addition, I love dogs and used to clean homes as a part-time job throughout high school. I can commit to two years and would love to hear back from you soon!
