I just finished working for a family on-and-off (because of graduate school) for nearly six years! When I started, the youngest child was 6 weeks old, and the other two were 2 and 4. They are now nearly-six, eight, and ten. I only stopped working for them because the youngest started kindergarten, and I relocated to Seattle. I worked full-time for this family in a role that largely began as a caregiver for the infant, but expanded as the years went on and the children grew up. When I finished, my roles included (formally and informally!): safe driver to/from school and activities, dinner chef, grocery shopper/errand completer, laundry magician, homework whiz, shoulder-to-cry-on and hug-giver, negotiator/calmer, voice of reason, date-night enabler, home organizational pro, house repair coordinator, hair-braider, etc. During this time span I went to graduate school for 2.5 years and earned a Master's degree in Human Development and Family Read more Studies with an emphasis in Child Life. My degree area was specialized in child development and specifically learning to support children in a hospital environment. Aside from my academic courses, I worked for several semesters in an early childhood education center on campus in the infant/toddler classroom (6 weeks to 2 years) and the preschool classroom (2-4 years). My graduate degree also included an internship at a pediatric hospital where I worked in various departments to promote children's psychosocial well-being in the hospital setting. I worked with patients ranging from newborns to 20+ years of age.
