First up in our new Sitter Spotlight series is Aubrey C., a talented New York-based dancer, teacher, and Sittercity sitter. When she isn’t dancing her way through the streets of New York City or choreographing a new dance routine sure to turn heads, she enjoys teaching and working with children. Naturally, she found babysitting as a way to provide her with both opportunities to further expand her experience with children and make an income. “I love babysitting because I love working with kids! Their curiosity for the world around them and their joy for life is so uplifting.”

When asked what qualities great sitters possess, Aubrey shared that, “sitters must be compassionate, attentive, creative, and patient;” all four traits being valuable in working with families and children.
She also shared her insight on how families can better land qualified and experienced sitters like herself. Aubrey stresses that families should look for sitters who are similar in nature to their own family and express these characteristics or specifics in their job posts. Also, finding a sitter that is a great fit requires open communication and similar values. “When I’m looking for jobs, I look for a family who seems similar to me. I like when they are really upfront about what they are looking for in a sitter, because that helps me determine if we will be a good fit.”
