Blake’s Bio
I have learned valuable skills from a variety of jobs that have prepared me well to begin learning and helping in any way I can. I am a UCSB graduate with my degree in psychology with a minor in counselling, clinical and school psychology. am interested in working as a walker because I love animals, I want to work compatibly with a team, and to strive towards further work in the veterinary field. Many of my past jobs have in several ways prepared me for this exciting position. My time working at the UCSB Koegel Autism Center really helped to give me a better understanding of the practical and effective measures that can be taken to attempt to improve individual’s lives. This knowledge I believe has significant overlap in the realm of animal care, in that I will need to be able to think on my toes to solve complex problems in a supportive and caring way. I had to develop many skills to help me with this work including the ability to work independently, implement program components, engage in social interactions aimed at teaching, and assisting coordinators with various parts of the program application, all skills which I believe to be applicable to this position.
My works as a research assistant in the education department at UCSB has also left me with abilities I feel are catered towards the work available with you. For example as an RA, I was responsible for large groups of individuals, including planning the activities that they would engage in and providing a safe, entertaining, and supportive learning environment. These skills of planning and maintaining a safe environment I believe would be of paramount importance in regard to animal care. Additionally, I participated in meetings to constantly be improving the work we were doing. This experience has given me the ability to think of creative and effective solutions to social problems as well as educational ones.
I have always been an animal lover since I was young. I’ve raised several dogs myself and helped my grandma birth, raise and train 4 litters of Labrador puppies over the years. While my previous work primarily focused on work with people, I am very interested in moving in another direction towards work with animals. I believe that many of the skills are transferable and
