Betsy’s Bio

Hello! My name is Betsy Newman, and I’ve been a full-time, professional pet sitter and dog walker in San Diego for around nine years, and I absolutely love my job. My lifelong experience with and love and respect for dogs (and cats, ducks, guinea pigs, etc), combined with several years as a full-time volunteer animal shelter worker/dog and cat socializer (first at the Lange Foundation in Los Angeles, 2005 - 2007; and then similar duties at the San Diego Dept. of Animal Services, 2008 through 2012) all led me (it was inevitable!) to establish my own petsitting/dog walking business; and, while I am an Independent Contractor, fully licensed, bonded and insured, I am also affiliated with a wonderful network of “back up” walkers and sitters in the highly unlikely event (it hasn’t happened yet!) that I am unable to to arrive on-time and as scheduled due to a sudden illness or injury, etc.

While I enjoy my regular dog walking jobs, I tend to maintain a “lighter” daily walk schedule than the average pet care professional, so that when overnight stays are scheduled, I know I’ll have enough available space for whatever amount of “daylight” time the overnight pet(s) may need.

Overnight pet and home care are my main focus , and I work hard to ensure that - as much as possible, that is - your beloved dogs (and cats?) are happy, relaxed, and are “doing” their usual activities, even if that amounts to a lot of napping. (being in their comfy home environment really helps in this regard, of course). I am committed to giving your pet(s) the care, love, exercise and attention they are used to enjoying, and to that end, I learn as much as I can about your beloved “fur kid”. Also, FYI: I have been trained and certified by the Red Cross in both dog and cat First Aid and CPR. And while you’re away, I’m happy to text you photos, updates, even video greetings from your pet.
Our first step is a no-obligation “meet and greet” in your home. We can go over your pet’s specific needs, habits, likes and dislikes, favorite sleep spot (95% of the time, of course, it’s up on the bed) I hope to have the opportunity to meet you and your cherished, hairy family member - and to provide you with excellent pet care.
