As a long term pet owner (dogs and cats) I have come to understand the following:
Our pets are part of our family
Some of our pets feel more comfortable being cared for in their own home during our absence
Some of our pets rely heavily upon their routines for comfort and a sense of security

I currently have a very special dog, who thinks the new sofa was purchased especially for him. My favorite walks are when he is with me reminding to stop and appreciate what is around me.
