Jo Dee’s Bio
I have had animals ever since I was born. Our family had a beagle and a boxer and a German shepherd when I was growing up. When my son was growing up, we had hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs. When we moved to Colorado, a dog was given to us. I named her Perita, which means little female dog in Spanish. When I got married and had a daughter, we had a blue heeler named "Patches", then a red heeler which we named "Patches" because we had to take the blue heeler back to the Humane society because he wanted to chase cars. Then I spent $250 for a beagle with beautiful markings. We named her "Shiloh" and she got stolen. Then we got a Jack russle terrier and named her Bambi because she liked to crawl up on the back of the couch and curl up from nose to tail like a deer and fall asleep. She got hit by a truck out in front of our house because my husband refused to build a fence around the property instead of just the back porch. Relatives left the front door open and she tried to run across to the park. Our last dog was a gorgeous golden retriever and we had her almost five years. We named her Ginger. She died of a twisted bowl, we think. We had two cats, a golden tabby named "Tigger" and a gorgeous Persian named Pearl. My daughter also had rabbits, mice, and guinea pigs when she was growing up. Last Christmas I house-sat for my pastor and his wife and took care of their golden retriever named Bella. That was difficult after losing Ginger. My daughter also had a horse she named "Starlight" and we had for a few years and then sold her. I love animals, especially puppies and kitties, cats and dogs, and horses. I used to live 65 miles from Pueblo and was commuting to be able to work for District 60 schools, working with special-needs children. There was a horse that my daughter and I adopted between home and Pueblo. His owner was fine with us feeding him and petting him. We named him Jay. We would drive to the area on the other side of the road and park the car. I would honk the horn and no matter how far out in the field he was, he would come running! It was so neat to have a horse to love without having all the expense of keeping one!
