I can not vividly recall my life with out a happy animal companion by my side. I am a strong advocate that our pets are family and are thus are not disposable. I was raised from birth with pets in our household. I have played with the kittens and puppies, fed and watered and played with them long after the novelty wore off. I was the then-teenager who, when our toy poodle had gone blind and deaf, would wake in the middle of the cold winter night and carry her down the steps to the grass and wait for her to meet her needs and carry her back to bed with me. The Thursday before Thanksgiving 2014 a teeny tiny kitten showed up on our front door. We already have several fish, a dog and an adult cat but we knew we could not leave this kitten out in what was promising to be a freezing night – we had just finished bringing in our plants to keep them from dying. Despite being unsure if we really should take on another family member, she brought her in and let her sleep with us. We fell in love and come Monday morning we had her at the vet getting her first vaccinations. To our dismay that very night she developed a case of diarrhea that lasted, despite doctor intervention, for two solid weeks. Please imagine this: that stage in a human toddler's life when they refuse to wear clothes or a diaper... now add a stomach virus. That was what is was like. We had not bargained on this sort of event, having never in our combined 84 years of having furry family members, experienced this. It put a strain on our young marriage but made us stronger. $500 dollar in two weeks later our kitten is back to health and romping up a storm. One night of compassion has brought a greater joy to our lives and even our other two fur-children have shown benefits from having a child in the house.

Professionally, in 1991 I became Certified Nurse Aid (CNA). In 1993, I passed the Texas state-given Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). From October 2012 till January 2014 I volunteered with Hospice. The family asked me to stay on and provide hospice care to their father. When he passed through the families word of mouth I began caring for another family. I have cared for other peoples children, raised my own. Caring for others, be they human, furry, hoofed, or finned, is my life's essence.

P.S. I have also raised goats and find them amazing companions. First chance I get to have land I will be adding a Nubian to our family.
