I've pet sat for numerous families and have watched a wide variety of dogs. The biggest was a 200 pound Great Dane and the smallest was a Yorkie. I've been around dogs of many temperaments, and am really good at reading canine body language and predicting behaviors. My favorite types of dogs are any of the herding, sporting or working groups, but really, I love them all.
I have a sweet and smart BC/ACD mix, and he has been in lots of training classes, and I've been in even more with foster dogs and shelter dogs. My own dog walks beautifully on a leash, is well socialize with other animals and has titles in agility, as well as his AKC Canine Good Citizen certification.
I worked for the local animal shelter all through college, overseeing other volunteers, walking dogs, training dog, cleaning kennels and cat boxes, administering medications and vaccines, assisting with surgeries, and dealing with the public, sometimes in high stress environments.
At the shelter, I have also worked with lots of cats. I cleaned their litter boxes, fed and administered medications, no easy feat in some cases. I enjoy cats almost as much as dogs and I appreciate how quirky and independent so many of them are.
I live, read, dream, and learn all things I can about dogs. I have a fierce desire to apply for an online training school to become a professional trainer. I want to use positive reinforcement only to train dog sports, to keep dogs in their homes by teaching basic manners and I want to train service dogs who can truly give someone their quality of life back.
I am comfortable walking multiple dogs at the same time and am able to manage multiple dogs homes with no problems. One family I pet-sat for had four dogs, three of whom hated each other so needed to be rotated in and out of the house and yard. I have worked with puppies and elderly dogs, and have administered insulin and meds to lots of dogs.
I am also happy to look out for other areas of your house, bring in the mail, water indoor and outdoor plants, whatever you need. I am quiet, tidy and self-sufficient when house-sitting and can provide references from others I have worked with.
I know that leaving town can be a stressful time for families and their pets, and I hope I can make this time a little easier, by providing trustworthy care to your pets. That way, you can focus on your time away, knowing they are safe and being loved.
