Dear Companion Animal Family,

Like so many others, I am an ardent animal lover, but unlike so many others, I am also an animal rights activist and volunteer. It started out when I was four, and my father placed me on the back of a tame deer who had appeared from the woods near our backyard. So gracious was the doe she allowed me to remain aloft while she wandered the yard, eating the yellow roses. From that point on, I have had an affection and respect for animals and a burning desire to protect them.

My recent volunteer activities include serving as a Deputy District Leader for the Humane Society of the U.S., in which capacity I work with legislators in trying to pass animal friendly bills, while also working at the grass roots level to gain community support for animal initiatives. I have served as the arts chair for the Menands Shelter's Art Saves Animals, annual fund drive, responsible for gathering all art to be auctioned off at that event. I work with three, local rescue groups, The Animal Support Project, The Rensselaer County Humane Society, and 11th Hour Canine Rescue, to assist with adoptions and special events. Last year I developed and supervised a project I called "Images of Love". With the participation of my three rescue groups, I encouraged local artists to create original paintings of their harder to adopt dogs and cats, which were then gifted to those adopting them as a special thank you. I arranged a reception at an Albany coffee house, where the paintings (all 40 of them) were on display for a month. It was a successful event, with rescuers, artists, and animals in attendance, and much information and support was shared.

In addition to my work with organizations I also fostered dogs for several years, and found good homes for at least a dozen. Combined with my own menagerie of a dog and three cats, I learned a great deal about dealing with frightened and unfamiliar animals, and restoring them into relaxed and fully functioning animals.

I have had experience pet sitting for animals from turtles to chinchillas and enjoyed every situation. I treat animals with the affection and respect they deserve as individuals, with their own personalities and needs. If I were to sit for your family member, whether you are at work or out of town, I would show the love with which you treat them, provide them with the exercise and stimulation they desire, and care for their essential needs, (like food or medicine), in a systematic manner.
