I am a college student working on earning my bachelors degree in nursing. Previously, I had wanted to be a veterinarian, After a multiple job shadows in both careers, I realized that although I love animals, nursing is the career for me. Even though I no longer want to be a veterinarian, animals are still a very large part of my life. Growing up I owned two Golden Retrievers. I did obedience training with them and was able to show them at small local shows. I co-owned one of my dogs with the breeder we purchased both dogs from. We planned on breeding when our female was of age. Unfortunately, right before she turned two, when she was supposed to get her OFA and CERF Testing done, we found out she had cancer and a short time later we had to put her down. As sad as I was, this event sparked my interest in the health and science of breeding dogs. Since then I have spent a lot of time looking at the AKC breeding standards, genetic issues within the breed, and much more related to breeding the ideal golden retriever. Throughout high school I enjoyed taking our family dogs duck hunting with my dad, raising and showing pigs for 4-H, and raising the two litters of registered Golden Retriever puppies that we were able to have. I learned a lot about all the work and research that goes into breeding correctly. Although our dogs are now retired, I hope to have my own small breeding program one day. As of right now, being a college student I cannot provide the proper set up or take the time to be a responsible breeder. I find joy in going home to visit my family and our three golden retrievers (used for hunting), two cats, and, if it's the right time of the year, my brothers 4-H pig.
I love caring for animals, learning their different personalities and quirks. I am experienced in basic animal care (feeding, walking, general grooming), I have previously provided animal care for dogs, cats, pigs, horses, goats, rabbits, fish, and guinea pigs, but I am always eager to learn and willing to expand my experience.
