After raising two kids, my husband and I are empty-nesters now.  Pet sitting, dog walking and house sitting are things I love to do.  I learned a lot from my mom about observing animals and their behavior and how to approach different kinds of animals.  In college, I learned more about animal behavior and how to keep different kinds of animals well. 
My family pets have included a dachshund, an outdoor cat, two rabbits, a bird, two lizards, several fish and a hedgehog.  In college, I worked one summer caring for mother pigs and their litters.  As a biologist, I set up and maintained insect colonies for research projects.  Some of my regular animal clients include:  Mitzi, a very active Pug/Boston terrier mix who loves to walk several times a day; Earl Grey, an elderly cat with special needs; Chester, a three-year old Corgie who loves to play; and two young cats named Ben and Jerry.  
I take my job very seriously and like to get detailed instructions on what each animal is used to as far as food, activities, dislikes and likes.  I have found that pets are happiest in their own homes when their owners are gone.  The familiarity of their home assures them that their owners will return soon.  I am also available for house sitting duties, such as watering the yard and indoor plants, taking in the paper and mail, and varying the lights, TV and/or radio to make the house appear as if the owners are home.
