I was raised with dogs & cats since I was 5 years old and currently have 3 furry babies at home. Spock, a Japanese Inu Akita (100 lbs), Bear, a Doberman/Shepard mix (130 lbs) , and Hutch, a Beagle/Cocker Spaniel mix (38lbs). Hutch is almost 13 and unfortunately has lost his hearing but we have learned how to get around this. When he goes outside at night, because he can't hear, he has learned that if he sees my flashlight, that means it is time to come in. I swear he has also learned hand signals! LOL
I say "Bless You" to my guys when they sneeze. so I have a tendency to treat them like my own children. The real ones have already move out! My daughters also have a menagerie, which includes 3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 birds, and 1 lizard and 1 hamster. I have taken care of my "grand-dogs" when the girls go out of town. One is paralyzed from the waist down, so I do have experience with "challenged" animals.

I have also been a volunteer at a NC zoo & rescue center, which included being the adoptive mom to an Arctic wolf. We bonded so well over the past 4 years, both wolves Luna (arctic) and Ali (timber) would come up to the fence and give me kisses. I have even been licked on the knee by Ares, a bengal tiger (through the fence) who had just jumped out of his water bath & to come running toward me at the fence, playing! I loved it :-) My husband and I would do everything from cutting grass, raking leaves, painting, putting vitamins on the big cats food prior to feeding. We went year-round, regardless of the weather. We have spent the day in 32 degrees and 99 degree weather because it was for the love of the animals. I have never met a puppy, dog, kitten, cat, tiger, lion or wolf that I didn't love.
