I am a 73 year old retired Registered Nurse. I enjoy reading books on domestic and wild animals. I enjoy viewing Allen
Paen's "Animal Rescue" on television. Also viewing Jack Hannah's "Wild Kingdom".
I enjoy knitting afghans and have made an afghan for each of my grandchildren. I grow African violets and orchids. I do flower gardening in the summer. I have belonged toSkyline Garden Club for five years.
I volunteer at a pet rescue center once a week.
Two years ago I sat for a Beagle and a Yorkie. I visited these pets at noon to give them fresh food and water. I took them for a 30 minute walk.
Last year I sat for a week as a live in pet sitter while owners were on vacation. I brushed them, fed and gave them fresh water. I let them out in their fenced yard to relieve themselves and cleaned up their waste. They slept with me at night as this was allowed.
This year I sat a Wolfhound-terrior dog as a live in pet care provider. I gave her fresh food twice a day with a pill mixed in it. I brushed her twice a day and walked her twice a day for an hour.
I had a diabetic cat that I had to give Lantis insulin and subquetaneous fluids. Having been a nurse I already knew how to administer these medications but my veteranarian
refreshed my memory.
I believe pets give us much unconditional love just by petting them, a rub of their belly, or just talking to them. They can sense our feelings. How great to have a pet waiting for you after a long day of work.
I do not have any certifications in pet care but have had either a dog or cat in my life. Now I can't afford to have a pet because of being retired. I enjoy talking with pet owners and providing care for their pets.
