In my pre-school yearbook, under my name, it says "When I grow up, I want to be a babysitter and take care of children!" I always thought babysitters were the greatest (plus, I loved Babysitters Club books). I passed the hospital's caregiving course in seventh grade, and went on to be not only a babysitter, but a live-in nanny (college), special education paraprofessional & foster care respite provider (post-grad), and, from 2009-2012, a teacher in an autism school. I also taught youth Shakespeare and theatre courses for students ages 4-21. From 2011-2020, I worked in NYC, nannying for twins on the autism spectrum while also babysitting on weekends, working part-time for a company that provided safe care and therapy for disabled children, and tutoring a homeschooled tween. I volunteered weekly with a local autism school's inclusion program, helped in stop-motion creative arts youth classes in the summers, and returned to Read more theatre. I'm still close with the twins, one is even my godchild now, but once they were old enough to take the subway by themselves I knew it was time to find a new job. I went back to school for my Masters in Children's Lit. My first book for readers ages 8-12 was published by Penguin Random House in 2019, with a second to follow next year. I have a ton of experience in working with nonverbal/nonspeaking and disabled kids, as well as those in Gifted & Talented programs. I am a huge fan of using alternative communication methods and encouraging creativity for kids of all abilities. Every kid has a story to tell and I love helping them find their best way to tell it, be it through words, writing, dance, drawing, stop-motion, filmmaking, pretend play, photography, or by other means. I love reading to kids, building with Legos, doing science experiments, playing board games, and finding find art projects. When the weather is nice, going to parks and playgrounds is fun. When it's not, museums, libraries, or science centers are great. If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, feel free to ask! :)
