My brother is developmenally disabled, and is currently in a long-term nursing facility. The staff cares for his medical needs, but does not have the resources to provide 1:1 engagement with regularity, and he thrives much better having someone to talk with and sit with him. He may need assistance communicating needs (diaper) to the staff, or cutting up his food/assisting with feeding. But mostly he just needs a warm, patient person to keep him company, sing songs, read stories, etc.
