When the word date or dating is mentioned, most people conjure up images of singles who are meeting new people and looking for that special someone. Rarely do we think of dating as something to do with a spouse or long-term partner.

Many relationships can become routine and mundane when couples stop actively dating each other. Giving your relationship only small amounts of time can potentially lead to its demise. At the beginning of a relationship, it’s very easy to be intentional. But if you don’t continue to pay attention to it over time, it’s easy to get into a relationship rut.

The best relationships require effort and during this time of isolation and quarantine, they may need a little more attention in order to not deplete your Love Bank Account.

How to Create Special Moments While Confined

With the added stress and anxiety of COVID-19, it’s easy to be in a survival mode of just trying to get through the day. There’s also the issue of trying to create some romance or couple-time if you also have children in the home.

Don’t be discouraged. It may take some extra effort and creativity, but your relationship is worth it!

The Solution: Plan Surprise Dates Weekly!
I’m a fan of “surprise” dates. In fact, I recommend this to my clients. Take turns each week planning surprise dates for each other. You plan a date for your partner this week and have them plan a surprise date for you next week.

The great thing about taking turns planning dates for each other is that you eliminate the age-old question, “What do you want to do tonight?”

This is the secret sauce of the surprise date: just tell your partner when to be ready and what to wear and there’s no debate or resistance. The addition of novelty and doing something different together will definitely increase connection and romance—much like when you first started dating.
