I try and have a wholistic approach when working with kids. For example, if a kid throws an object, instead of punishing them I would first observe the situation, seeing where the kid's emotion is. Looking for body queues (clenched fist, frown, tears, etc.). Next, I will say what the boundary is, do some calming exercises (deep breaths), and then ask some questions to understand the why. Kids generally have low emotional tolerance and need to be taught how to cope and problem solve in healthy ways. I also try and encourage curiosity of the the world around them, especially nature.
