I’m the eldest of the children in my family, so I discovered my natural caregiving nature at a young age. I have been a caregiver of people ages 3 through 93! The elderly are such treasure troves of wisdom and history, and the children are good for my soul; they amuse me, surprise me and fascinate me. I like watching them grow, I like teaching them and getting the satisfaction that I have helped a young one learn learn. Currently I am caring for sisters—a three-year-old, and one who turned six years old last month. I most like to play and interact with them in way in which they learn. For example, the girls’ first language is English, and I am teaching them to speak Spanish. Of course, what I’m able to teach them depends on age and what a parent wants in that regard. I’m willing to do light housekeeping, and I am also an experienced house sitter and pet sitter. Hi! My name is Keiko, and caring for kids has always been one of the greatest joys in my life. I attended Oklahoma State University, where I majored in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resources. Later, I felt called to healthcare, so I switched paths, attended nursing school, and earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I recently got engaged and moved to Edwardsville, IL, and I’m currently waiting to start my first nursing job as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse. I’ve always had a passion for children and even had a hard time deciding between teaching and my other degrees. Ultimately, I chose different fields — but I knew I would always find ways to be around and work with kids. Nursing allows me to do exactly that! Throughout college, I led the Foster Youth Advocates Club and worked as a support person in a Pre-K classroom that needed extra hands, especially with the littles. I also spent 10 weeks as a camp counselor at an overnight camp for children ages 5–13, where campers stayed for two weeks at a time. That experience gave me a deep understanding of caring for kids on a long-term, consistent basis. Alongside school, I worked with many local families doing school pick-ups and drop-offs, dentist appointments, after-school activities, haircuts, and everything in between.
