My background in caring for infants, toddlers, and youth started when I went on my first mission trip to a children's home in Reynosa, Mexico. Since then I have been working for the past decade to increase my knowledge and skills in child development and pediatric mental health. Hi my name is Melissa. For the past eight months I've been working as a direct support specialist and a camp counselor at Ramapo for Children in Rhinebeck, NY. But I have decided that I needed a change of pace and direction. Due to my new position as a direct support specialist, I feel as though I haven't had enough time to connect with the kids I work with anymore and the demand of the job and lack of quality has become a burden to me..

I am the older sibling to a younger sister and watched her often. When I was 13 I took a babysitting class. When I was in high school I took a childhood education class where I had to take an OSHA course along with a CPR and first aid class. I was also in charge of a pre k class as part of the childhood education class. I have watched children from ages newborn-13. I have watched upwards of 6 kids at a time which included infants. I currently have 3 families that I watch on a regular basis. I have worked for 20+ families throughout Colorado. I do not have a milage limit. I have been a full-time since the beginning of 2023 but have always done this part-time.

I am originally from Maryland and graduated from UMD, I moved to New Orleans post graduation to be a service corps volunteer for a year-long program. I loved the city so much I decided to stick around after my program ended, and continued working at the nonprofit I had been a service member at! I have been babysitting regularly since I was 13, and have been babysitting through Sittercity now for over 5+ years. Through Sittercity, I’ve babysat all types of families and children, ranging from newborns all the way up to middle schoolers. While living in Maryland, I nannied two families (both with elementary school aged children), spent 4 summers volunteering at my temple's pre-school with 2-5 year old children, and worked as a lifeguard for 2 summers where I was responsible for watching over many children. Since being in New Orleans, I have babysat mostly through Sittercity, for families all across the city and even for families coming from out of town who needed a sitter for the weekend. I really love working with kids and getting to see their imaginations explore! Currently, I am working during the week but am free most late afternoons, nights and weekends. I am also usually available last minute, and have a car so I can drive to wherever you are. I also have a dog at home and am comfortable with all animals. I love children and have been babysitting since I was 13 years old -- which is over 40 years of experience!  I am a former English teacher and have master's degrees in education and fine arts.  I worked at one point as a full-time nanny, but for 18 years (2003-2021), I was an editor at the LSU School of Medicine.  However, I always enjoyed childcare as a way to counterbalance the dry, technical work I did all day and frequently babysat on evenings and weekends while working there. I even had two long-term part-time nannying jobs while at LSU.  Now that I have left LSU, I have returned my full-time efforts to childcare. I don't mind sitting for families who need occasional help here and there, but I most enjoy working for people who need someone on a regular basis as it gives me a chance to know the family and bond with the kids. I have also babysat for a number of families who are visiting New Orleans and take pride in making both parents and kids feel comfortable so that they can really enjoy this wonderful city. In fact, there are a number of out-of-town families who book me every time they visit the city, which I consider a high compliment, and it's wonderful to be able to see the kids grow over time. I have cared for children in a variety of situations -- from one child to 6+, from newborns through pre-teens, from occasional jobs to regular jobs.  As a former teacher, I know a fair amount about child development and can also help older children with homework -- particularly anything to do with English (writing, grammar, reading skills).  I have a passing acquaintance with French (used to be nearly fluent, but I never have the opportunity to use it, so I lost most of my ability), and I used to play the piano.  I have also taken CPR training several times (though I don't have current certification).  I drive a reliable and fully insured vehicle and have an excellent driving record.  I enjoy most pets and have no allergies.  I am older than the average babysitter, which makes me far more experienced and responsible, and I am intelligent and educated as well.  In addition, for local families who are looking for a regular babysitter/nanny, I have the advantage of living in New Orleans permanently; unlike college students, I don't move away during the summers or at the end of a few years. Hello! I'm a recent college graduate with a degree in international relations with a minor in french! I have worked in a youth center for 2 years with school age children that are typically 4-12 years old while also assisting in a CDC for children that are 6 weeks to 4 years old. I provided engaging activities that were centered around the arts as well as physical activity while during my time at the youth center. I have a background check from Peterson Space Force Base which allows me to legally watch up to 12 children by myself. I am also certified in adult and paediatric CPR + First Aid and consider myself to be an energetic caregiver with a passion for caring for children!
