I am currently taking a gap year while applying to medical schools with goals to pursue a career as a medical scientist specializing in pediatric oncology. I am passionate about providing children with safe, joyful, and nurturing care. I have spent the last 7 years working with children of all ages--from newborns to teenagers-- and multiples (up to four children at any one time, including nanny share) as well as children with both medical and developmental special needs. My background working and volunteering in healthcare and childcare allows me to approach every situation with a level-head, confidence, and compassion. I’m 22 years old and in December I will have two Bachelor science degrees in Criminology/Criminal Justice and Crime Scene Investigation. I went to Nursing school for a year but decided to take a break partly for my mental health and also because of COVID. My whole life I have loved children and grew up babysitting my 6 cousins lots of times as well as my own special needs brother. My cousins were aged 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, and 6 months when I first began in high school. The oldest child is special needs and needs extra care such as tube feeding. I also grew up with a special needs older brother who could not talk or walk. I would always play with him/entertain him, help clean and change his diaper, and help feed him. I always put others first in my care and care about their comfort and feelings. He passed away unfortunately, but he had such an impact on me and my heart. I have worked at a daycare for three years and absolutely love my job and all the children. I enjoy teaching children with interactive activities such as sensory play and art and crafts with learning elements such as colors, shapes, numbers, letters, animals etc. I have worked with every age from infant to school age children. Being with kids is such a rewarding job to see them grow and change. In the past three years, I have seen so many kids grow up and it's incredible to see and be there to witness it. I couldn't imagine having any other job than working with kids. I also am somewhat of a “magnet” for children. I have been told many times that children are “attracted to my energy”, they always smile, and want me to hold them. I am a certified, experienced early childhood educator, with a bachelors and masters degrees in Early Childhood Education, and 14 years of experience teaching and working with children, mainly in childcare settings. Throughout that time I have worked in and out of all age groups and classrooms, from infants to middle school. The majority of my experience has been with early childhood (ages infant-6 years). My most recent teaching position was in a private preschool in Creve Coeur that served infants-6 year olds. There, I worked with the 1 & 2 year olds and the 2 & 3-year-olds. Prior to the pandemic I worked in a different private school teaching 3 & 3 year olds in the morning and 4 & 5 year olds in the afternoon. Then, during the pandemic, I worked for a few months as a nanny for a 2 & 6 year old, while helping the 6 year old and his 7 year old classmate with virtual learning. I have recently decided to leave teaching, due to the stresses and distractions that take some of the joy away from it for me. However, I I do still love and connect with young children and would like to continue working with them in a different capacity. I feel like nannying and babysitting would be a perfect way to do this. During my experience as a nanny I drove the children to many places, and left her car seat strapped in the back seat of my car, so I am fully willing and able to do the same for you if that is a need of yours. I also provided many other engaging play and learning experiences and activities for them. In addition to my daytime nanny and babysitting experience, I do have many years of experience babysitting on evenings and weekends if that is a need of yours as well.
